1969 - 1977 Commercial and investment sales with McTeer Real Estate Company in Columbia , S. C. Specialized in sales of income producing properties and undeveloped land. Vice President 1975-77.
1977 - present President and owner of Cantey & Company, Inc., a real estate consulting and property management firm in Columbia , S.C. Offers advice and counsel to real estate owners and purchasers on a fee-only basis. Have advised and/or negotiated for clients in over five hundred acquisitions, sales, leases, exchanges, restructurings or financings. Creates computer models for analysis of real estate. Now owns or have owned as an individual or as a partner office buildings, shopping centers, apartments, duplexes, single family houses, warehouses and land. Company manages over 250 residential units.
1989 - present President and owner of Cantey Mortgage Company, Inc., a licensed Supervised Lender in S. C. specializing in buying and selling existing purchase money mortgages.
1995 - 2005 President of Riverland Development Corporation, Inc. This corporation owns three office buildings totaling 160,000 square feet located on Stoneridge Boulevard , Columbia , S. C.
Professional Designations
CCIM Awarded the CCIM designation (Certified Commercial Investment Member) by the Realtors National Marketing Institute in 1976. Requirements: five week-long courses, comprehensive exam, three demonstration reports and evidence of ability to make transactions. Signifies achievement in analyzing and marketing commercial and investment properties. One of approximately 10,000 in the U.S.
CRE Awarded the CRE designation (Counselor of Real Estate) by the American Society of Real Estate Counselors, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors in 1981. This invitation-only designation recognizes professional expertise in real estate counseling. One of approximately 1,200 in the U.S.

Teaching Experience
1983 - present Instructor for investment real estate finance and analysis for the S. C. Realtors Institute. Teaches eight hours twice per year to experienced Realtors.
1986 - present National faculty member of the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute (an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors). Teaches CI 101, "Financial Analysis for Commercial Real Estate," CI 104, "Investment Analysis for Commercial Real Estate" and CI 404, "Advanced Tax Planning for Commercial Real Estate". These week-long courses are taught four times per year to experienced Realtors in major cities nationwide. Voted by peers as “Senior Instructor of the Year” for CI 404 in 1992, for CI 104 in 1995 and for CI 101 in 1999.
1995 - present Author and instructor of the following four-hour courses which qualify for mandatory continuing education for real estate licensees in South Carolina: “Tax Traps & Tips , an Update to Protect Your Clients,” “Creative Financing, Unlock the Power of Seller Financing,” and “Wealth Building for Residential Realtors.”
